For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team might be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
